Phyllis D. Banks has a passion for promoting, preserving, protecting and enhancing the ideas, images, products and reputations of others.
An award-winning communications and PR strategist, Phyllis leverages her diverse communications skill-set to positively impact the growth, profitability, visibility and viability of Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, nonprofits, governmental entities and advertising and PR firms.
Prior to launching her consultancy practice, Phyllis served as Assistant Vice President/Senior PR Specialist at BB&T (formerly Colonial Bank). Her extensive background also includes work for companies including Nielsen, Boise Cascade, Tanqueray, Baxter, Ford and McDonald’s; retailers such as Albertsons, Jewel and Dominick’s; and nonprofits including The Salvation Army, YMCA, United Negro College Fund and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
In the public sector, she handled communications activities on behalf of the Los Angeles City Council Redistricting Commission, O’Hare International Airport and Chicago Housing Authority.
She started her career as a reporter at the Pulitzer Prize-winning Fort Wayne, Ind., News Sentinel.
She has worked as a volunteer for several nonprofits including City of Hope, the Michael Jordan Foundation and Childserv, and has served on the Advisory Board of the Open Book Program. She is immediate past vice-president of the National Black Public Relations Society and helped re-launch the Los Angeles Chapter of the organization. She has served on the PRSA – Los Angeles Diversity Committee.
Phyllis is a proud graduate of Indiana University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in forensics with a minor in journalism.
